Tripping curve B / C / D
Karakteristiek B / C / D
Also known as: b-karakteristiek, c-karakteristiek, d-karakteristiek, karakteristiek-c, trip-curve, trip-karakteristiek, schakelkarakteristiek, uitschakelkarakteristiek, inrush-current, inschakelstroom
Type B trips magnetically at 3–5×In (lighting, socket groups), C at 5–10×In (motors, transformers), D at 10–20×In (heavy inrush currents). Incorrect selection causes unwanted tripping or insufficient short-circuit protection.
Practical example
Characteristic B / C / D: A VFD with high inrush current gets a C MCB instead of B, as a B MCB would trip undesirably on every start.
Common mistake
Characteristic B / C / D Common mistake: Using B-breakers everywhere, including motors and transformers — inrush current often exceeds the magnetic trip threshold, causing nuisance tripping.
