Fuse utilisation category gG / aM
Designation of a fuse-link's time/current melting behaviour. gG ('general purpose, full range') melts on both overload and short-circuit according to a fixed time/current curve and is the standard choice for cable and line protection. aM ('accompanied, motor') protects only against short-circuit, not overload — intended to be used together with a separate thermal motor-protection relay, so the high inrush current of a motor does not cause unnecessary blowing.
Voor de voedingskabel naar een verdeelkast wordt een gG-zekering gekozen, omdat zowel overbelasting als kortsluiting op deze kabel moeten worden afgedekt.
Een aM-zekering toepassen op een kabelvoeding zonder aanvullende thermische beveiliging — de kabel is dan bij langdurige overbelasting niet beschermd, omdat een aM-zekering daar bewust niet op reageert.
