Vlamboogdetector (AFDD)
Also known as: vlamboogdetector, vlamboog, arc-fault, boogvlam-detectie, afdd-boogdetector, boogontlading-detectie, serie-boog-brand, boogontladingsbeveiliging
Component detecting series and parallel arcs in final circuits via high-frequency current signature and tripping before insulation/wood ignition. NEN 1010 recommends AFDD for fire-critical areas: bedrooms, timber-frame construction, historic buildings, childcare.
Practical example
Arc-fault detector (AFDD). An AFDD detects rodent chewing in a NYM cable behind plasterboard, well before the MCB trips (current too low for magnetic release).
Common mistake
Arc-fault detector (AFDD). Common mistake: confusing AFDD with RCD—an RCD monitors earth leakage, an AFDD monitors arc signatures; both are required for full fire and personal protection.
