First Aid for Electric Shock
Eerste Hulp bij Elektrocutie
Immediate action after an electric shock: first isolate the source or free the casualty using insulated material without endangering yourself, then check breathing and consciousness and perform CPR (30:2) and use an AED if needed. NEN 3140 requires organisations carrying out electrical work to have first responders trained in this procedure.
Practical example
Na een schok van een monteur bij het openen van een verdeelkast schakelt een collega eerst de hoofdschakelaar uit voordat hij het slachtoffer aanraakt, en start daarna reanimatie terwijl een ander de AED haalt en 112 belt.
Common mistake
Het slachtoffer direct met blote handen van de spanningsbron lostrekken — de hulpverlener loopt dan zelf het risico van een elektrische schok.
