RCD Type A
Also known as: type-a-rcd
Switches on sinusoidal and pulsating DC leakage currents. Standard choice for modern housing groups because single-phase electronics (LED drivers, chargers) generate pulsating residual currents that Type AC does not detect.
Practical example
RCD Type A: A housing group with an LED driver and charger gets a Type A RCD, as it also detects the pulsating DC component of the leakage current.
Common mistake
Another Type AC RCD applied to modern electronics — a Type AC may fail to trip correctly on pulsating DC leakage current.
