RCD Type B

Detects smooth DC leakage currents up to 1 kHz+. Required for three-phase inverters (PV panels, EV chargers without galvanic isolation) where Type A does not ensure safety—a DC leakage blocks magnetic operation.
Practical example
RCD Type B Example: A three-phase EV charger without galvanic isolation in the inverter is protected by a Type B RCD, as smooth DC faults would otherwise go undetected.
Common mistake
Common mistake: Using a Type A RCD with a non-isolated inverter — smooth DC leakage current can saturate the RCD's magnetic core, preventing tripping.
