Charging connector Type 1 / Type 2 / CCS
Standardised connector types for charging electric vehicles (IEC 62196). Type 1 (SAE J1772) is a single-phase 5-pin connector mainly used on older, originally Asian/American vehicles; Type 2 (Mennekes) is the European standard for single- or three-phase AC charging up to 43 kW and mandatory for new public charge points in the EU; CCS (Combined Charging System) adds two extra DC pins below a Type 2 connector for high-power DC fast charging (up to several hundred kW).
