Agricultural Premises — Supplementary Equipotential Bonding (§705)
A supplementary requirement in NEN 1010 §705 for electrical installations on agricultural and horticultural premises (barns, milking parlours, livestock-containing greenhouses) requiring supplementary equipotential bonding that interconnects all accessible conductive floor parts and fixed metal structures with the earthing system, so that the permissible touch and step voltage for livestock — which, due to their four-legged stance and lower resistance threshold, are far more sensitive to small potential differences than humans — is limited to a safe level. In wet, conductive environments with livestock, shorter disconnection times also apply, and TT or TN-S with RCD protection is the preferred earthing arrangement over a combined PEN conductor.
