Phase rotation (phase sequence)

The order in which the three phases reach their peak (L1-L2-L3 = clockwise). Phase rotation sets the direction of three-phase motors; swapping two phases reverses it. Checked with a phase-rotation meter when connecting motors, pumps and CEE sockets.
Practical example
Phase sequence (phase order). When connecting a new three-phase pump, the phase sequence L1-L2-L3 is checked with a phase sequence meter before starting the motor for the first time.
Common mistake
Phase sequence. Common mistake: Pump/compressor runs backwards after rewiring—check phase sequence before first start, don't just 'try'.
