Verify phase and neutral connections on correct terminals—single-pole switches and fuses must be on phase only, not on N.
Practical example
Polarity test: When connecting a light switch, it is checked that it is indeed in the phase wire and not mistakenly in the neutral conductor.
Common mistake
Polarity test: Mounting a switch in the neutral conductor—the lamp appears off, but the fitting remains live if L/N are swapped.
