Internal Source Impedance (Zi)
The impedance of the supply source itself (transformer plus supply network) up to the installation's point of connection, excluding the installation's own wiring. Together with the impedance of the installation wiring (Zext), Zi determines the total loop impedance Zs (Zs = Zi + Zext), and governs the maximum achievable fault current at the origin of an installation; a low Zi (strong network) gives a higher prospective fault current than a high Zi (weak network, e.g. far from the transformer).
