First step of every inspection — visual check for damage to cable, plug, sheath, housing, and type plate. On deviation, rejection without further testing.
Practical example
Visual inspection: A cable with a torn sheath at the plug is rejected immediately, without needing an insulation resistance test.
Common mistake
Visual inspection Common mistake: Repairing a damaged sheath 'temporarily' with tape and approving it — visible damage warrants rejection, not a temporary fix.
