One-time overcurrent protection using a calibrated fuse wire that melts on overload. Used in main distribution boards (D02, NH) and sensitive final circuits where selectivity is required.
Practical example
Fuse protection. In the utility's main connection box, an NH knife fuse melts during a short circuit in the main line before the cable is damaged.
Common mistake
Fuse protection: Replacing a blown fuse with a higher-rated one 'because it keeps blowing' undermines the downstream cable protection.
