Motor Protection Circuit Breaker (MPCB)
A combination switching device per NEN-EN-IEC 60947-4-1 that in a single unit provides both the short-circuit protection (magnetic, fast) and the thermal overload protection (adjustable to the motor's rated current) of a motor feeder circuit, including manual on/off switching. Unlike a separate combination of a miniature circuit breaker and a thermal overload relay, the factory coordination between the two protections (type 2 coordination) is already guaranteed by the manufacturer.
Voor de voeding van een 5,5 kW-ventilatormotor wordt een MPCB met instelbereik 9-14 A toegepast en ingesteld op de nominale motorstroom van 11,2 A, zodat zowel kortsluiting als een langdurige overbelasting worden afgeschakeld.
De thermische instelling van een MPCB op de maximale schaalwaarde laten staan in plaats van op de daadwerkelijke nominale motorstroom — de motor wordt dan bij een blokkade of fasewegval niet tijdig tegen overbelasting beschermd.
