Child-Resistant Socket-Outlet (Shutter Mechanism)
A mechanical protection, mandatory for domestic socket-outlets under NEN-EN-IEC 60884-1, consisting of internal shutters in front of the contact openings that only open simultaneously when both poles of a suitable plug are inserted at the same time and with sufficient force. This prevents a child from touching a single contact hole with an object (such as a needle, paperclip or finger) while the other remains closed, which would be possible with an asymmetric design. The shutter mechanism is an intrinsic, always-active protection of the socket-outlet itself and is therefore fundamentally different from a loose, removable child-safety cap that is inserted into the socket afterwards and can be forgotten to be put back.
Bij de oplevering van een woning met jonge kinderen controleert de installateur dat alle geplaatste wandcontactdozen een geïntegreerd shuttermechanisme hebben in plaats van losse kindveiligheidsdopjes te adviseren.
Bij renovatie oudere, niet-kindveilige stopcontacten zonder shuttermechanisme hergebruiken 'omdat ze nog goed werken' — deze voldoen niet aan de huidige NEN-EN-IEC 60884-1-eis en bieden geen intrinsieke bescherming tegen het aanraken van een los contactgat.
