Distribution board after the meter with main switch (typically 1- or 3-phase), RCDs, and circuit breakers per final circuit. NL requirement: minimum two RCDs so one fault does not trip the whole house.
Practical example
Consumer unit A house installation is split across two RCDs, so a leakage current on the kitchen circuit does not trip the bedrooms.
Common mistake
Distribution board Common mistake: Connecting all circuits to a single RCD — non-compliant with the NL requirement of at least two RCDs, causing a total power outage upon a fault.
