Emergency stop (E-stop)
Noodstop (nood-uit)
A manually operated safety command (mushroom button, pull-cord) that brings a machine to a safe state as fast as possible. EN 60204-1 distinguishes stop category 0 (immediate removal of power) and category 1 (controlled stop, then power off). It overrides all other functions and does not replace the main switch.
Common mistake
Noodstop als gewone aan/uit gebruiken, of stopcategorie 0 toepassen op een as die juist gestuurd moet afremmen — categorie 1 is dan veiliger.
