Non-contact infrared temperature measurement of terminals, busbars, and cables under normal load. Detects loose contacts and overloading before they cause fires — typically 1× per year in industrial installations, per the NEN 3140 risk approach.
Practical example
Thermographic inspection: During an annual thermal inspection of a distribution board, a terminal is found 20 °C hotter than others — reason to tighten it before damage occurs.
Common mistake
Thermographic inspection Common mistake: Performing thermography on a lightly loaded installation — loose connections do not heat up enough to become visible, giving a false sense of security.
