Star-delta (Y-Δ) starter
A starting method for three-phase induction motors in which the windings are connected in star (Y) during start-up — reducing inrush current to roughly a third of the direct-on-line value — and automatically switched to delta (Δ) after a few seconds for normal full-voltage operation. Requires three contactors (main, star and delta) and a timer relay; used to limit inrush current and the resulting network voltage dip when starting larger motors (typically from about 5.5 kW upward).
Voor een 11 kW-compressormotor kiest de paneelbouwer een ster-driehoekstarter met een omschakeltijd van 4 seconden om de inschakelpiek op het bedrijfsnet te beperken.
De omschakeltijd van ster naar driehoek te lang instellen — de motor blijft dan te lang op de veel te lage sterspanning draaien, waardoor hij onvoldoende koppel levert en oververhit kan raken bij belasting.
