Sauna — Zoning and Heat-Resistant Wiring (§703)
A special provision in NEN 1010 §703 for rooms containing sauna heaters, which divides the interior into four temperature zones (from floor to ceiling, decreasing from very hot near the ceiling to less hot at floor level); in the hottest zones only cabling and equipment with insulation rated for at least 170°C is permitted, so standard PVC wiring is not allowed there. Switchgear and distribution equipment must be located outside the sauna cabin, and the sauna heater itself is fed via a fixed connection with a thermally protected temperature limiter, not via a plug-and-socket combination.
Bij het bedraden van een privésauna kiest de installateur silicone-geïsoleerde kabel geschikt tot 180°C voor het laatste stuk naar de saunakachel, omdat deze zone volgens NEN 1010 §703 in de heetste temperatuurzone valt.
Standaard PVC-geïsoleerde installatiedraad doortrekken tot vlak bij de saunakachel omdat 'de rest van de bedrading ook PVC is' — de isolatie verweekt en degradeert bij de hoge temperaturen in de bovenste zone, met kans op kortsluiting of doorslag.
