NEN 1010 §522.8
Minimum bending radius
Minimale buigradius
Also known as: buigradius, minimale-buigradius, bending-radius, minimum-bending-radius, buigstraal-kabel, 4x-buitendiameter, minimale-buigstraal-kabel
Minimum bending radius. Smallest permissible cable bend radius to prevent insulation damage and conductor injury. Typically 8–12× outer diameter for fixed installations (cable type dependent). Always consult manufacturer specs when pulling through conduit or bending in distribution boards; too small a radius causes insulation micro-cracks.
Practical example
Minimum bending radius. When pulling an XMVK cable into a conduit, a bend with a radius of at least 10× the cable diameter is maintained to prevent damage to the XPE insulation.
Common mistake
Minimum bending radius. Common mistake: Bending an XMVK or sheathed cable sharply around a corner (< 6× Ø) when laying in a cable tray — XPE insulation may be internally damaged while the sheath remains intact.
