NEN 1010 §523
Conductor cross-section vs. current
Aderdoorsnede vs. stroom
Also known as: doorsnede, aderdiameter, kabeldiameter, harmonischen, harmonics, thd, derde-harmonischen, 150-hz, neutral-overload, harmonic-neutral, nulgeleider-overbelasting
Conductor cross-section vs. current. YMvK 70 °C reference values: 2 or 3 current-carrying conductors, in air — 1.5 mm² = 16 A, 2.5 mm² = 20 A, 4 mm² = 25 A, 6 mm² = 32 A. Apply correction factors for temperature, bundling, and insulation type.
Practical example
Conductor cross-section vs. current: A 20 A kitchen circuit uses 2.5 mm² Cu; bundled with five others in one conduit, size often increases to 4 mm².
Common mistake
Cable cross-section vs. current Common mistake: Applying table values without correction factors in a cable tray with many circuits — actual current-carrying capacity is lower than stated.
