Armoured Cable (SWA)
A cable fitted with a metallic reinforcement layer (usually galvanised Steel Wire Armour) beneath the outer sheath, giving extra mechanical protection against impact, crushing, and rodent damage for direct burial or underground runs without conduit. The armour can also serve as an earth conductor or screen, but must then be explicitly connected and sized for that purpose.
