Conductor flexibility classes
Geleiderklassen (1β6)
Also known as: geleiderklassen, conductor-class, flexibility-class, klasse-5, class-5-conductor, massieve-geleider
Conductor classes (1β6). Class 1: solid β fixed installation. Class 2: stranded (compacted) β fixed installation, good flexibility. Class 5: flexible β portable equipment (appliance cord). Class 6: ultra-flexible β welding machines, cable reels. Higher class = more strands = better flexibility but costlier and harder to terminate in terminals.
Practical example
Conductor classes (1β6). Fixed wiring in a distribution board uses class-2 stranded wire, while a hand-held appliance's flexible cord is class-6 ultra-flexible.
Common mistake
Conductor classes (1β6). Common mistake: Connecting a class-5 flexible cable in a screw terminal without a ferrule β loose strands spring back, causing the connection to loosen over time.
