Cable Termination
The finishing of the end of a cable (often medium-voltage or heavier low-voltage) to allow it to be safely connected to a switchgear, transformer or distribution board, using heat-shrink, cold-shrink or resin-cast technique to restore the cable's insulation level up to the connection terminal and to control the electric field stress at the conductor screen cut-back. A cable termination differs from a cable joint: a joint connects two cable ends together within a continuous run, whereas a termination closes off one cable end and connects it to a device.
