Halogen-Free Cable (LSZH)
Cable with a sheath and insulation made from halogen-free polymers that produce very little smoke when burning and, unlike ordinary PVC cable, release no corrosive, toxic hydrochloric acid fumes (HCl). LSZH (Low Smoke Zero Halogen) cable must comply with IEC 60332-1 (flame retardance), IEC 60754-1/2 (halogen acid gas/conductivity) and IEC 61034 (smoke density), and is required in escape routes, cable shafts and areas with large numbers of people.
In het trappenhuis van een kantoorgebouw, dat tevens vluchtroute is, wordt uitsluitend LSZH-kabel toegepast zodat bij brand het zicht en de lucht zo lang mogelijk begaanbaar blijven.
Gewone PVC-kabel toepassen in een centrale kabelschacht van een hoogbouw omdat die goedkoper is — bij brand levert dit dichte, giftige rook die vluchtwegen onbegaanbaar maakt en blusploegen belemmert.
