Grid Congestion / Feed-in Capacity Limitation
The situation in which the electricity grid at a given location has reached its transport capacity for additional feed-in (e.g. from solar parks, PV installations) or additional off-take (e.g. from charging infrastructure, heat pumps), forcing the grid operator to refuse, limit (e.g. via a capacity-limiting contract) or place new or expanded connections on a waiting list until grid reinforcement is completed. For installers, grid congestion is relevant when designing PV and charging-infrastructure projects: before requesting a connection or an increase in contracted capacity, availability must be checked with the grid operator.
