Concentric Neutral Conductor (Underground LV Network Cable)
A cable construction widely used by Dutch grid operators in underground low-voltage distribution cables (for example the type 4x150Al/70Cu), in which the neutral function is not provided by a separate core conductor but by a copper screen or braid applied concentrically around the phase cores, which also serves as mechanical protection and as an earth screen. This construction differs from the classic separate N-core found in installation cables such as YMvK, and requires a specific stripping technique and a suitable cable joint or termination on connection or repair, in which the concentric screen is correctly connected through as the neutral conductor. Damage to or interruption of the concentric screen therefore affects not only the cable's mechanical protection, but directly also the neutral function of the connected low-voltage circuit.
