Swimming pool/pond zone classification

Classification of the area around a swimming pool, pond or similar body of water into zones 0, 1 and 2 under NEN 1010 §702, each with its own requirements for voltage, IP protection and permitted equipment. Zone 0 is the water itself (SELV/PELV only, max. 12 V AC or 30 V DC, IPX8); zone 1 extends 2 m horizontally and 2.5 m vertically from the edge (no socket-outlets, lighting only SELV/PELV or double-insulated); zone 2 extends a further 1.5 m (socket-outlets only behind a 30 mA RCD and minimum IPX4). Differs from the bathroom zone classification (§701) in its larger distances and the additional requirement for supplementary equipotential bonding of all conductive parts in and around the basin.
