Mineral Insulated Cable (MI cable)
Mineraal geïsoleerde kabel (MI-kabel)
Cable with copper conductors insulated by compressed magnesium oxide powder inside a copper or stainless-steel sheath, fully non-combustible and fire-resistant, used in emergency power and fire-alarm circuits.
Practical example
In een parkeergarage wordt MI-kabel toegepast voor de voeding van de rookafzuiginstallatie, zodat deze bij brand nog minimaal 90 minuten blijft functioneren.
Common mistake
MI-kabel afmonteren zonder de speciale vochtdichte eindafsluitingen — vocht dat in het hygroscopische magnesiumoxide trekt, doet de isolatieweerstand sterk dalen.
