Machinery Directive (2006/42/EC) — Electrical Equipment
A European product directive setting out the fundamental health and safety requirements that machinery must meet before being placed on the market, including its associated electrical equipment. Unlike NEN 1010, which governs a building's fixed electrical installation, the electrical control cabinet and wiring that form an integral part of a machine fall under the Machinery Directive and its associated harmonised standard NEN-EN 60204-1; the machine's connection point to the building's network is typically the boundary between the two scopes. The directive obliges the manufacturer to carry out a risk assessment, compile a technical file and apply the CE marking following a conformity assessment procedure.
Bij het uitbreiden van een productielijn met een nieuwe verpakkingsmachine controleert de installatieverantwoordelijke of de fabrikant een CE-markering en conformiteitsverklaring op basis van de Machinerichtlijn heeft afgegeven, vóórdat de machine op het bedrijfsnet wordt aangesloten.
Een zelfgebouwde of ingrijpend gewijzigde machine in bedrijf nemen zonder eigen risicobeoordeling en CE-markering, in de veronderstelling dat de CE-markering van de losse componenten (motor, frequentieregelaar) daarvoor al volstaat.
