IP69K — Protection Against High-Pressure and Steam-Jet Cleaning

IP69K — bescherming tegen hogedruk- en stoomreiniging

An additional degree of protection (originally defined in the German standard DIN 40050-9, harmonised in ISO 20653 for road vehicles and applied in practice as a supplement to the basic IP code of IEC 60529) indicating that an enclosure withstands cleaning with a high-pressure, hot-water jet: water at 80°C at a pressure of roughly 80-100 bar, sprayed at close range and from various angles onto the enclosure for a specified time, without any water ingress that would compromise the equipment's function or safety. IP69K is an addition ('K' stands for the German designation for high-pressure/steam-jet cleaning) to — not a replacement for — the regular IP code (for example IP69K alongside IP66K or IP68): equipment certified only to IP69K does not necessarily also withstand prolonged immersion. The classification is used mainly on equipment in the food industry, agriculture and vehicle wash bays, where daily high-pressure cleaning with hot water and aggressive detergents is common.

Practical example
