Differential Protection (Transformer/Generator)
A protection principle in which the current entering one side of a protected zone (e.g. a transformer or generator) is continuously compared with the current leaving the other side; on a significant difference (an internal fault such as a winding short) the protection trips almost instantaneously. Unlike overcurrent protection, this protection is not time-graded and only responds to faults inside its own protection zone.
