ATEX Zone Classification
Classification of hazardous areas into zones based on the probability and duration of an explosive atmosphere occurring: zones 0/1/2 for gas, vapour or mist and zones 20/21/22 for dust, ranging from continuous/frequent presence (0, 20) to only brief possible presence (2, 22). Zoning follows NEN-EN-IEC 60079-10-1/-2 and, per NEN-EN-IEC 60079-14, determines which electrical equipment (Ex category/EPL) may be installed in that area.
