Digital kWh meter installed by the grid operator with a P1 output (RJ-11) per DSMR. Provides real-time energy consumption, feed-in capacity, gas consumption, and tariff status to home energy managers (HEMS), solar panel monitoring, and dynamic contracts. Not part of the NEN 1010 fixed installation but is a mandatory installation point.
Practical example
Smart meter (DSMR P1 port). A HomeWizard P1 cable or HomeAssistant DSMR integration reads consumption peaks every second and throttles the wallbox below the 3×25 A main fuse.
Common mistake
Smart meter (DSMR P1 port) Common mistake: Using the P1 port as the sole measurement point for NEN 1010 handover tests—the smart meter records consumption, not certified measurements for Riso, Zs, or RCD time.
