P4 Port of the Smart Meter (Installer Port)

P4-poort van de slimme meter (installateurspoort)

A physical connection on the Dutch smart meter, separate from the well-known P1 port for the end user, intended for use by the metering-responsible party or installer during commissioning, maintenance and fault diagnosis of the meter itself, allowing meter settings to be read or changed without having to dismantle the meter. Unlike the P1 port, which primarily sends real-time consumption data (in kWh and kW) to a display or home-automation system for the end user, the P4 port is not freely accessible to the consumer and access typically requires specific authorisation or equipment from the grid operator or metering service provider. Knowledge of the existence and function of the P4 port is relevant for installers dealing with fault reports or unexpected meter behaviour that cannot be explained via the regular P1 readout.

Practical example
