Measurement Uncertainty — Accredited Calibration Laboratory (ISO/IEC 17025)

Meetonzekerheid — geaccrediteerd kalibratielaboratorium (ISO/IEC 17025)

A quantitative estimate of the spread of values that can reasonably be attributed to a measured quantity, stated on the calibration certificate of a measuring instrument (for example an insulation tester or loop impedance meter) calibrated by a laboratory accredited under ISO/IEC 17025. Measurement uncertainty is typically expressed as an expanded uncertainty (U) with a coverage factor k=2, corresponding to a confidence level of approximately 95%, and includes contributions from the reference instrument, environmental influences and the measurement method itself. When assessing whether a measured value (for example a loop impedance or insulation resistance) actually meets a limit, the measurement uncertainty of the instrument used must be taken into account: a result close to the limit may, with a wide uncertainty band, not actually demonstrate compliance.

Practical example
