Medical location group 1/2 (NEN 1010 §710)
Classification of medical locations in NEN 1010 §710 by the risk to the patient of a first insulation fault. Group 0: no applied part in contact with the patient (e.g. waiting room) — normal requirements. Group 1: applied part external or invasive but not in contact with the heart (e.g. examination room) — a 30 mA RCD is required. Group 2: applied part in direct cardiac contact or providing life support (e.g. operating theatre, ICU) — a medical IT system with an insulation monitoring device (IMD) is required so a single first insulation fault does not cause automatic disconnection and loss of supply.
De operatiekamer van een ziekenhuis wordt aangemerkt als groep 2, waardoor de voeding via een IT-medisch-net met continue isolatiebewaking (IMD) loopt in plaats van via een klassiek TN-stelsel.
Een operatiekamer met alleen een 30 mA RCD beveiligen zoals bij groep 1 — bij groep 2 zou de RCD bij de eerste fout de stroom onderbreken tijdens een levensbedreigende ingreep; hier is juist een IT-net vereist dat bij één fout blíjft doorwerken.
