DC Arc-Fault Detection Device (DC AFDD) for PV Installations
A protective component that detects series arc faults in the DC wiring of a PV installation — for example caused by a loose connector, damaged insulation or a poor crimp connection — and automatically shuts down the DC inverter or DC disconnector upon detection. Unlike AC installations, a DC arc cannot self-extinguish at a current zero-crossing, so a DC arc fault can burn continuously and poses a real fire risk, especially on roofs with combustible roofing material.
