Dynamic Resistance Measurement (DRM) — Circuit Breaker Contacts During Switching
A diagnostic measurement technique (recommended by CIGRE WG A3, complementary to IEC 62271-100) that, unlike a static transition-resistance measurement on a stationary, closed breaker, continuously records the resistance of a power circuit breaker's main and arcing contacts during an actual switching operation. Because the resistance profile during opening or closing is captured, mechanical deviations are revealed that a static measurement misses: including contact erosion, incorrect overlap timing between main and arcing contacts, or disturbed magnetic-blowout coil operation, since each of these phenomena produces a characteristic, recognisable pattern in the resistance-versus-time curve.
