Moulded-case circuit breaker (MCCB)
A protective switching device in a moulded plastic enclosure, governed by IEC 60947-2, with a substantially higher switching and short-circuit capacity (Icu, Ics) and rated current (tens to thousands of amperes) than an ordinary miniature circuit breaker (MCB, IEC 60898-1). Used as the main switch/feeder protection in main distribution boards of commercial and industrial installations, often with adjustable thermal and magnetic trip settings.

Een MCCB als gelijkwaardig aan een gewone installatieautomaat beschouwen bij selectiviteitsberekeningen — de uitschakelkarakteristiek en instelmogelijkheden verschillen wezenlijk, en instellingen die niet correct zijn afgesteld ondermijnen de selectiviteit met de onderliggende automaten.
