Withdrawable Circuit Breaker (Drawout Positions)
A version of a circuit breaker (typically an ACB, sometimes a larger MCCB) mounted on a withdrawable chassis that can be moved between fixed, mechanically secured positions: the connected position (all main and auxiliary contacts engaged), the test position (test/disconnected, auxiliary contacts still engaged for functional testing but the main current paths physically separated) and the withdrawn/removed position (fully isolated and safe to remove for maintenance). This distinguishes the withdrawable version from a fixed-mounted breaker, where the only way to separate the main current paths is by opening an upstream isolating device. Withdrawable breakers allow maintenance and replacement with minimal disruption to the rest of the installation and are usually fitted with a mechanical interlock that prevents the chassis from being moved while the breaker is still closed.
Voor de periodieke inspectie van de hoofdschakelaar in een hoofdverdeelinrichting brengt de VP de uittrekbare ACB eerst naar de testpositie om de elektronische trip-unit functioneel te testen, en pas daarna volledig naar de uitgetrokken positie voor de fysieke inspectie van de hoofdcontacten.
Het chassis van een uittrekbare vermogensschakelaar van de bedrijfspositie naar de testpositie proberen te bewegen terwijl de schakelaar nog is ingeschakeld, in de veronderstelling dat de mechanische vergrendeling dit wel zal voorkomen — bij een defecte of overbrugde vergrendeling kan dit een gevaarlijke onderbreking onder belasting veroorzaken.
