PV String Combiner Box (String Fuse)
A junction box in the DC section of a larger PV installation in which multiple strings (series chains) of solar panels are combined in parallel before the combined DC current is routed to the inverter, typically fitted with an individual string fuse per string and a combined DC disconnector. The string fuse protects an individual string against an excessive reverse-feeding current from the other parallel strings in the event of a fault (e.g. a short circuit) in that one string — a risk that becomes particularly relevant in installations with three or more parallel strings. In installations with only one or two strings, a string fuse is often unnecessary, since the maximum reverse-feeding current then remains within the cable and panel specifications.
Bij een bedrijfsdak met acht parallelle PV-strings plaatst de installateur een stringcombinerbox met acht individuele DC-stringzekeringen van 15A, zodat een kortsluiting in één string niet leidt tot een schadelijke terugvoedende stroom vanuit de zeven andere strings.
Stringzekeringen toepassen op basis van de stroomsterkte van één enkel paneel in plaats van de maximale terugvoedende kortsluitstroom vanuit alle overige parallelle strings — de zekeringwaarde moet worden bepaald volgens de PV-specifieke berekening uit NEN-EN-IEC 62548, niet volgens een generieke DC-vuistregel.
