Load-break switch (switch-disconnector)
A manually operated switch designed to make and break normal operating current and, in the open position, to provide a visible or provable isolation for maintenance work. Unlike a moulded-case circuit breaker (MCCB), a load-break switch has no automatic thermal or magnetic tripping function — it does not protect against overload or short-circuit and must always be installed downstream of a separate overcurrent protective device.
Vóór een vast opgestelde machine wordt een lastscheider met deurvergrendeling geplaatst, zodat de kast niet kan worden geopend zolang de machine onder spanning staat.
Een lastscheider inzetten als enige beveiliging van een voedingskabel — zonder aparte zekering of automaat blijft de kabel bij overbelasting of kortsluiting onbeschermd, omdat de lastscheider daar niet op reageert.
