Adjustable overcurrent protection (Ir/Im)
On moulded-case/air circuit breakers (MCCB/ACB), adjustable threshold values: Ir sets the thermal (overload) trip current as a factor of the rated current In, Im sets the magnetic (short-circuit) trip current as a multiple of Ir. This allows a single breaker type to be tailored to the actual load and the selectivity required with upstream/downstream protective devices, unlike the fixed factory settings of an MCB.
Bij het afstellen van de hoofdschakelaar in een hoofdverdeelinrichting wordt Ir op 0,8×In en Im op 6×Ir ingesteld, zodat deze pas na de onderliggende groepenautomaten aanspreekt (selectiviteit).
Ir standaard op 1,0×In laten staan zonder de werkelijke belasting te controleren — bij een lager werkelijk vermogen verliest men marge voor toekomstige uitbreiding, en bij een hoger vermogen schakelt de beveiliging onnodig vaak uit.
