Inrush current
Inschakelstroom (inrush)
A brief current peak when switching on a load, often a multiple of rated current: transformers and motors up to 8-12 × In, LED drivers and SMPS up to 20-60 × In for a few milliseconds due to input-capacitor charging. Drives the MCB curve choice (B/C/D) so the breaker does not trip on every switch-on.
Common mistake
Een grote groep LED-drivers achter een B-automaat zetten — de opgetelde inschakelpiek schopt 'm uit; hier hoort een C- of D-karakteristiek.
