Electronic Trip Unit — LSIG Settings
Adjustable protection functions of an electronic trip unit in a power circuit breaker (ACB/MCCB under IEC 60947-2), divided into four zones: L (Long-time) protects against overload with an adjustable current threshold (Ir) and delay time, comparable to a thermal element; S (Short-time) trips within a short set time (for example 0.1-0.4 s) on a short-circuit current exceeding the Isd threshold, enabling time-graded discrimination between successive breakers; I (Instantaneous) trips without intentional delay on a very high short-circuit current (Ii) as a last-resort backstop, often disabled where S-based discrimination is desired; and G (Ground fault) detects an earth-fault current that can be lower than the regular overcurrent thresholds and trips with its own adjustable Ig value and time delay. Correctly coordinated LSIG settings between successive breakers in the installation are essential for both discrimination and adequate protection of cables and equipment.
