Lightning protection system (LPS): External (air terminal + down conductors + earth electrode) plus internal (Type 1 SPD) system discharging direct and induced lightning energy to earth. NEN-EN-IEC 62305 divides buildings into 4 LPL classes (I-IV) based on risk analysis; mandatory for high buildings, schools, factories with explosion hazard.
Common mistake
SPD type 1 weglaten bij gebouwen met externe LPS — zonder type 1 kan een directe inslag de installatie alsnog opstuwen tot vlamboog-niveau.
